Hi and welcome to the kayak-team specific blog posts from Chris and Ian over the next 66 days
Whilst the regular postings from the AYAC Support Team will surely be illuminating and inspirational, nothing quite compares to the juice that can be squeezed out of two-months sleeping next to Ian Bacon in a poorly ventilated two-man tent.. the sauce of the murray
So strap yourself in and change your underpants. We certainly won't be.
Day 1 - 3 : Finding the source of the murray
I asked Ian if he'd like to write the first blog post but he politely declined. He said that his amazing new haircut (prison themed) would do all the talking for him
Saturday morning, the 4th of December 2010 : we finally left Sydney after more than 12 months of planning, training and (more recently) hard-core heart-palpatating stress.
Who would have thought that something so monolithically ridiculous would be so difficult to implement?
With much valued assistance from the venerable Steve Boyd and his delicious turkey and jarlsberg-cheese sandwiches, we made our way South into the Victorian high country above the Snowy River
First blood.
The Murray River selects her first victim: a 1999 Toyota Hilux. Steve was busy singing along to Roy Orbison around one of these bends when he unexpectedly slipped off the road.
Fortunately for him, a tree stump stopped the car from flipping down into the gulley.
Good one, Steve!
More photos and posts from our trek out from the source and experience down the Murray rapids soon...
